Harry Groener is cast in Dance With Me as Michael Michaels, the Excelsior dance instructor who is Ruby's first partner on the rocky comeback road. "Michael Michaels has been out of it too long, and probably never was good enough to be in the majors," Groener explains. "Ruby realizes that he's not what she needs to regain her trophy." Groener is best-known to television audiences as the hapless Ralph on the "Dear John" series and for a recurring role as mayoral candidate Lance Brockwell on "Mad About You." He was seen regularly on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" as Tam Elbrun, had a recurring role on "Star Trek: Voyager," and guest-starred on "Quantum Leap." He made his professional name on the New York stage, where he has appeared in eight productions. He is a three-time Tony Award nominee, for playing Will Parker in "Oklahoma!", Munkustrap in "Cats" and, most recently, for over 1,000 performances as song-and-dance man Bobby Child in "Crazy For You." His work in "Oklahoma!" also garnered the Theatre World Award and a Drama Desk nomination. Other Broadway shows include "Sunday In The Park With George," "Harrigan 'N' Hart," "Is There Life After High School?" "Oh, Brother!" and "Sleight Of Hand." He appeared in the motion picture Brubaker, is in the new film Movies Kill, and played Captain of the Tecora in Steven Spielberg's Amistad. Born in Germany and raised in San Francisco, he earned a degree at the University Of Washington and launched his career at The Actors Theatre Of Louisville. He is married to actress Dawn Didawick, the thrift shop clerk in Dance With Me who also dances with Groener's character at the Excelsior Studio.
