Harry Groener lives in L.A. because of his
role as Ralph on NBC's Dear John, but
he goes back to Manhattan every chance he
gets. "People always say New Yorkers are
harsh, crass, abrasive. But my wife, who
just got back, said she was on a city bus and
the driver was singing away, and everybody
was smiling and laughing and having a great
time. Once, after visiting somebody in
Brooklyn, we were on this subway platform at
1 o'clock in the morning with about 20 other
people, and this one guy was playing 'Bye
Bye, Miss American Pie' on his guitar and
whenever he got to the 'Bye-bye,' everybody
else started singing. It was great, but you
don't see that too often." Doesn't he see
L.A. people singing? "Only when they're
alone in their cars."
